About Sofia
Soprano Sofia Asghari (2001) successfully completed her Bachelor’s degree in Classical Singing at the Folkwang University of the Arts under the guidance of Professor Rachel Robins in Essen.
She is now continuing her studies at the same institution, pursuing a Master’s degree.

It all began when 12-year-old Sofia discovered the Queen of the Night aria sung by Diana Damrau on YouTube. This powerful performance inspired her to trade her violin for classical singing. At the age of 14, Sofia began her studies in the Jong Talent class at the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle, where she completed both the Jong Talent class and her preparatory studies, including the first year of Bachelor’s theoretical subjects as part of her pre-degree training.

Her numerous guest performances and concert appearances include Klassiek op het Amstelveld in Amsterdam, the Mozart Ball in Zeist, the Tchaikovsky Ball in Amsterdam, Holland's Got Talent, Superkids, and benefit concerts for Africa and Nepal.

In 2016, under the direction of conductor Eric Kotterink, she sang the terzetto "Hebe deine Augen auf" from Mendelssohn's oratorio Elias. In 2018, she was invited to the Romansiade Festival in San Marino, where she gave a recital featuring works by P.I. Tchaikovsky at the Titano Theater. That same year, she made her debut in the Tchaikovsky Hall in Hamburg.

In 2021, Sofia was accepted into the Vienna Opera Academy, where she performed the role of Despina in Così fan tutte at Palais Pállfy. A year later, she debuted as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro at the Folkwang University of the Arts.
In 2023, she debuted as Minerva in Orpheus in der Unterwelt at the same university.

In 2024, Sofia made her debut as the First Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and reprised her role as Despina in the summer project "Streit Art" at the Folkwang University of the Arts.

Sofia received an honorable mention at the Princess Christina Competition in both 2016 and 2022. In 2022, she also won 3rd prize in her category at the international BTHVN competition in Vienna. Additionally, she reached the semi-finals of the Tilburg Bach Competition with the aria Quia respexit.

In 2017, Sofia served as a member of the laureate jury for the Princess Christina Competition.
